All about Sasaeng fans in South Korea

I was browsing through this sweetandtasty channel on Youtube and I came across this video about Sasaeng fans. What is Sasaeng fans (사생팬)? I bet we all know they are K-Pop fans from the name but little do I know that they are so crazy and obsessed.

Let's start with the meaning of Sasaeng. Sasaeng 사생 means private life so 사생팬 is private life fans if to translate literally. Here is the wiki on Sasaeng Fans. Their age group are ranging from 13-22 years old female.

When I first watched the video and Professor Oh (the girl who made the sweetandtasty videos) said that they camped outside their favourite stars' home, I was indifferent. It got interesting when she said that they operated in very organized group. They tracked their favourite stars by working on the phone, internet portal site and credit card company. Clone their handphones and some of them even trespass to these celebrities' home. Wow.. the lengths that they go to is beyond. I am kinda speechless, or should I say typeless..

But wait! Those are not all. Being a sasaeng fans need a lot of money. How in the world is a 13-22 years old gets money? This video here explained it. A girl in the video explained that they will have a leader in a group that funds them but they do not always have the money so some of them got into prostitution. Yep, you read correctly, they sell their bodies to stalk these celebrities. I'm like, "Whaaaaaaa....t?"

 

There are even people who make money out of this.. taxi drivers. They are called sasaeng taxis. They are paid a high amount of money to tailgate the celebs. They drive real fast and can be rented for the whole day. This is when if the fans do not have enough money to pay the taxis, they will sell their bodies. Maybe not to the taxi drivers but on the internet and stuff.

Why do they do this? I have one word that our family always say to these kind of things.. MOSECO. It means nothing better to do in Hakka dialect. So yeah, this is all I want to share to you guys. You can google more on Sasaeng fans if you'd like to get more info on them.

Here is a link to a Sasaeng blog stalking the Exo boy band. The pictures clearly show that the stars felt uneasy and disturbed by their behaviours yet they still do it.. I actually have a solution for these stalkers, they should imagine how ugly their celebs were before plastic surgeries. I'm not saying that they all have surgeries but they should just imagine.. just to take the edge off.
