Child Rape in Jakarta after JIS incident

Today, I won't be writing about any review. This morning I was so saddened by the news I heard from my colleague. Something was so horrifying happened. It is every mother's worst nightmare and every daughter's shattered dream.

My colleague didn't come to work since yesterday and she reported that her 3 year old daughter, her one and only child was sick. She said that blood kept pouring out from her vagina. Her caregiver told her that the child fell. But, things turned out to be so much worst than that.

She brought her daughter to a doctor and the doctor told her that her child was raped and now her vagina were torn up to her anus. I wasn't there to witness the event, but just by imagining it, I can tell how heart broken her parents must be and how hurtful the child is. Her mother was told to have her daughter for emergency surgery because the cut she had was so severe. She is only THREE.  My other colleague showed me her daughter's picture and my heart was cut into pieces too at that moment. In that photograph, that chubby little girl was smiling so widely on her mother's lap. But now I am not so sure if she can be as cheerful at that moment anymore.

I remembered that about a month ago, I read the news about sexual assault that happened in a well known International school in Jakarta that shocked the whole country. It was discovered that a 5 years old boy was raped by janitorial staffs. As a result to that, all parents's eyes were opened and many other international school are starting to tighten their security and making new protocols on the school children safety. You can read that in here or you can google for more info on that incident.

There is a bigger possibility that those whom hurt you or your child are someone who is close or within your environment. They are the one who know your schedule or habit or whom you are friend or hang out with. In the case of my colleague's daughter, it was her caregiver's husband that did those horrible acts. The caregiver has worked for my colleague's mother and took care of my colleague too when she was young. She was basically a trusted person. Who would have thought that her husband could come to the house and raped her child? No one would suspect that in a million year. She's been with her family for years and now the caregiver even tried to hide the fact by telling my colleague that her child fell.

The offenders are now in the police's custody. But what can they do? The law might detain them for 3 - 5 years only, but the trauma that the girl and the parents have, lasts for the rest of their life. We parents are in wars with these sexual offenders. The world is getting more and more corrupted. We parents must try our best and protect our children from them. I am not an expert in this, but there are some links below that you may click to give you more info:

From CNN - How to stop child's rape
From The Jakarta Globe - Child rape in Indonesia is a national emergency

Good resources and information from Stop It Now organisation to keep children safe

Let's pray in unity that our children shall be safe from these sexual offenders and those victims are given the grace to recover emotionally and physically.
