I ate at this restaurant for a total of 3 times and every time I went at their 27 Purvis Street Outlet. I came to know this restaurant due to the crowds that are always apparent during their dining hour. I wouldn't know about their lunch hour since I came during dinner hour only. I like this restaurant because they serve good Thai food and the prices is very reasonable.
So, I'll do backward review and start with the bill first.
As you can see that I ordered 6 dishes and the bill came out for only SGD 54.55. So in average 1 dish is less than SGD 10. On the bill, you could see that some dishes came in several sizes; small, medium and large. The food came pretty fast. It is good caused the restaurant is small and the q is usually long. Your waiting time shouldn't be too long.
I ordered sliced fish tamarind in Medium size. You could opt for the whole fish. If sliced fish, they will give you John Dory. For me, this dish is not too recommended. It is just eatable only.
The green curry chicken is sweet and you could also opt for beef instead. This dish is good, you might want to order it when you come here.
Phad Thai is good in Jai Thai and one of their favorite dishes. The crushed peanuts on the side is pretty generous too.
Tofu with chicken basil is a must order too. I like how silky the tofu is. The tofu itself is plain but the chicken basil gives flavor to it. Good combination.
Tom yum soup is thick and spicy. The seafood is pretty generous too, although I only ordered in small size. The soup is just like what I had before in Bangkok. It's pretty authentic.
The last order was pandan chicken. It feels like barbeque chicken to me. I had better pandan chicken before and this one seems a bit dry or over cooked.
Last to conclude my spicy meal, an iced Thai milk tea is a good pair. It is cool and sweet.
Jai Thai Restaurant has several outlets beside Purvis Street. Most convenient, perhaps its latest outlet at Dhoby X'change since it is located at the basement one level of Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. So, if you are in the mood to eat Thai food in Singapore, give this restaurant a try.
