Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is finally here in Jakarta. It was one of the popular restaurants to eat bak out teh in Singapore. But during my few years stay in there, I never once ate it. I usually go to Ng Ah Sio, Founders or Balestier.
For the last 2 weeks, every time I passed by Ozone, the place was full of cars, thanks to the first presence of this newly opened restaurant. So I decided to try it out. I came at 11.10 am and it was not opened yet, but look at the people below. They've started queuing for its 11.30 am opening. I wonder if the crowd will stay once they try the food. Let's get to that.
From the sign board, it was stated that the restaurant has been around since 1969 and the first outlet outside Singapore is Jakarta. I wonder again how the master franchisee here was able to convince the owner to open outside Jakarta.As far as I know, they only have one shop in Singapore, which is in Chinatown. Let me know if I'm mistaken about that. I just found out that they actually have 3 outlets in Singapore. Two are in Chinatown and one is in new Changi business park. Again, not my usual hang out places in Singapore.
The interior of the place is pretty nice. It's pretty bright since it has large window glasses. You can opt to sit outside, but no thanks, unless you want to have your skin tanned. The tables and chairs are standard, not for people to sit leisurely. You are supposed to eat your meal fast and leave. Good thing since the q is pretty long.
The meals we ordered, came fairly quick. But look at the rice portion, is basically 4 - 5 spoonfuls. Perhaps they understand that pork has lots of fat and to restrict our diet, we need to eat little bit of rice.
The dough fritters tasted standard. But the ribs were so good. It was softer than the one even in the famous bak kut teh I ate in Singapore. It was so easy to chew and to rip it off from its bones. The soup was seasoned with white pepper and therefore the colour was pretty clear.
The damage for 4 people:
In conclusion, this one is so far the best bak kut teh ever in Indonesia till now. The prices are cheaper than those in Singapore. For those bak kut teh lover, you don't have to go so far now. But, if I am in Singapore, I might still go to Ng Ah Sio or Founders for I like the soup's flavour better. What about you?

Once we were seated, we soon were served by a man whom just casually spoke in English with us. I guess he was imported from Singapore too. All tables were equipped with chillies sauce, chilli padi and soy sauce, condiments to go along with the meal.
